37th Street Closing (Sidwell Construction)

Dear Neighbors,
Does anyone have some information regarding the 37th St. closing schedule between Tilden and Quebec St.? Will the sidewalk remain open during the Street closing? This is of particular concern to us as our children school bus uses this portion of the Street.
Happy New Year!

I haven't heard that 37th Street is to be closed. This is of considerable interest because we live on the part of Tilden that is a dead-end, and the only way in and out is via 37th. Could someone please provide information on the status of this?
Many thanks,

Dear Neighbors,
The little I understand from conversations with the CFO of Sidwell is that a
portion of 37th south of Sidwell and Hearst and north of Quebec St will be
closed for a couple of weeks sometime in January for utility work to be done
for the gym construction. Hearst is working out an alternate place for
parents to drop off and pick up kids. I am not sure how the Sidwell middle
school drop off line will work. Those of us on Tilden will be able to get
out onto 37th and turn north. I do not know exactly when the closure will
start or how long it will last. I hope I am not incorrect on any other
details I have just provided. As an alternate to the neighborhood
construction liaison committee, I usually receive copies of the minutes of
the meetings, so as soon as I know anything more specific, I can share that
information.
Best,
Vanessa Johnson

Dear Listserv friends,
I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my request for information about Amish Fireplaces. The general consensus was it was better to stay away from this heating device. They are overpriced, their effectiveness is exaggerated, and there appear to be lots of copies out there. I think we are going to stay with what we have which is a simple small round space heater.

Given to us by a friend, can't keep it because the cat eats the
leaves. It looks kind of like this:

but much larger. Probably 8 feet high. I just put it on the sidewalk
in front of 3210 38th St NW.

Hi all - I recently bought a new printer and would like to give away
my old HP Deskjet. It works perfectly, but my new computer only has
USB ports - it does not have one of the printer ports. I've had the
printer for years and have never had a problem. Free to the first
taker - you just need to come over and pick it up! I'm on Ordway
Street. Please respond to sarapolon@gmail.com (sarapolon @ gmail.com) if interested.
Thanks,

FS large window shade n 2 blinds

Thu Jan 1, 2009 2:15 pm (PST)
Hi! We have three window shades/blinds that we no longer use post
renovations.
The first is a "natural looking" woven fabric roll up shade, 72" wide x 84"
high. It is in excellent condition. It cost $60 new at Pier 1. We are asking
$30.
We also have two white window blinds for $10 each, $15 for the pair. Each
blind is 37.25" wide and 73" high with 1" plastic slats. They are in very
good condition and we have all of the mounting hardware.
You can pick them up at our house on 28th Street near the Zoo.

We have used -- repeatedly -- Integrated Plant Care in Rockville -
301-881-8130. The president is Paul Wolfe. We lost two 100-plus
foot trees over the past 2-3 years and they took care of them. They
prune and feed our trees regularly. They are dependable and I don't
think they are particularly expensive (at one point, before we found
them, we got estimates that very much higher for tree removal). We
think they are terrific!

RE: tree removal: I have just had a prompt response and excellent service
from Bartlett.
Their trouble shooter is Tim who responded to my call and came out late last
night to access major damage to my house by a tree which had fallen on the
house. He had a crew at the house by eight this morning working to remove
the tree. The company is expensive, but the service could not have been
better.

We had a large cherry taken down a year ago, and I got two estimates. The one from For the Care of Trees was half the other one. FCOT did everything promised, very efficiently. A permit was needed and they got that. They also took down a tree across Quebec Street from us. My contact there was Shawn Siefers -- 301-444-9041.

I lived in a house on 38th St for 7 years before I moved overseas for
State Dept work. I am now back in DC and want to move back into my
beloved CP! Mid-40s, super clean, non-smoker, love yardwork, I am
looking to rent and love someone else's home as my own. Great
references. Maybe you'd like to delay selling and rent to me? Need at
least 2 bdrms and 2 baths to fit all my furniture.
Thanks,

Any students up for a Saturday afternoon job?

I'm looking for some help moving things around the attic and basement
Saturday afternoon. (Maybe Sunday afternoon too.) Are there any
students home for the holidays who'd be interested in earning $20/hour
for a few hours of not very difficult work? (An hour in the attic
helping me move things around, followed perhaps by a run to Goodwill
or the equivalent.)
Cheers,

We have a really nice papasan chair and ottoman that does not work in
our new house. Its about 6 months old (from Pier One) with a really
nice yellow suede cusion for the chair and ottoman. We also have a
small wardrobe storage unit that can be used to hang/store clothes.
Its from Ikea, hangs up to 15 shirts and has 4-5 drawers, and zips up.
Drop me a line if you want to come by and pick either of these items
up.

Two birds looking for a new home

We are no longer around often enough to give proper attention to our two
birds. We are trying to find them new homes:
The first is a blue-headed Amazon, 5 years old. She talks a lot in
English and Spanish. She's shy but very sweet. She has a full-size cage.
The second is a Quaker parrot, 6 years old. He bonds intensely with one
person. Since he is bonded to us, you will have to work on creating a
new bond. He comes with table-top cage.

AICP Exam

I am considering taking the AICP (American Institute of Certified
Planners)comprehensive exam in May. Before I invest in the exam fee,
study materials, and time away from my family to study I would like to
correspond with anyone who has taken the exam or might be considering
it too. The purpose would be to understand what were the most
effective and useful prep materials (from those who have taken it).
Also I'd like to know (if you've taken it) how did it affect your
career. I would then be interested in seeing if anyone is interested in
forming a study group.

Looking for an Adult Education Typing Class

Does anyone know of a typing class for adults?
We'd like to find a class that can teach someone who has been pecking
away with two fingers for quite a while the proper way to type.
In-person instruction would be better than an on-line course.
Thanks
